We've all seen these great whiteboard animations that have been circulating the web lately. I just thought this one was particularly appropriate to post here. It really caught my attention, I think I might have to read the book!
Upon first viewing I just thought this was a delightful little piece of skater/gamer geekery, but upon checking into the background of this spot I realized that it was a promo for a real thing- Nokia's N8. Apparently programmers have been having a field day creating a multitude of useful hacks for this open-source mobile device.
There's a great photostream on flickr showing the real hack in progress, accomplished by Solderin Skaters. Basically, they created system on the skateboard that communicates with your phone, keeping track of your 'score' by recording data every time you do a trick.
I can't even begin to figure out with my peanut-brain how they made this work. It's a good example of how open-source code really opens the floodgates for creative thought and innovation. I like the kind of behaviors a device like this can cultivate- the fact is that these hacks can't be accomplished without stellar imagination, collaboration, and the skill to make it work.
It's all about the fall music now! Even though it's technically still summer (for ONE more day), and even though this album technically debuted in June of this year...this is definitely music that I can listen to while watching the leaves change color.
I've been eyeing Brian Gossett's designs/prints on 'The Art of Doing Something' for a little while. Not only is the crisp design easy on the eye, but his positivity projects beyond the simple work itself. His work is a great reminder that sometimes all you need to make something awesome is a good attitude or a happy thought.
